DBSuper61: Painful Paradox

Holy crap, if you thought the time travel from the Android/Cell sagas was confusing, don’t even bother trying to understand Zamasu/Black. I cannot find a single explanation in this episode that doesn’t contradict another. It’s like the Bible! The easiest thing to do is just accept that the villains are a time paradox and need their asses kicked, ok? Please? No? You want me to try to make sense of it anyways? Ugghhhh…get ready for a headache.

  • Goku Black wrecks Future Trunk’s world (Universe 7 timeline B) sometime after the death of Goku and the defeat of 17, 18, and Cell.
  • Trunk goes back in time to get help from Goku (Universe 7 time A), but Black follows before being pulled back through a wormhole.
  • Zamasu (Universe 10 timeline A) has the same energy as Black, and gets pissed off when Goku beats him in a sparring match.
  • Zamasu (10.A) Plans to kill his master, then use the time ring and super dragon balls to wipeout all humans.
  • Zamasu (10.A) is destroyed by Beerus so that Black doesn’t exist.
  • Zamasu (10.B?) kills his master, switches his body with Goku (7.A) becoming Black.
  • Black travels to the “future” (Time B?) to find another version of himself that hasn’t yet stolen Goku’s body. (Shouldn’t that be the PAST?)
  • “Future” Zamasu (10.b?c?) gives Black a hug then wishes for an immortal body.
  • Black and “Future” Zamasu team up destroy the super dragon balls and kill of the Gods.
  • Black and “Future” Zamasu are still wrecking Trunk’s future.

There, does that make sense? NO! Of course it doesn’t! It’s a bunch of paradoxical nonsense to explain why there’s an evil Goku fucking up the future. They toss in a Time Ring and basically say “This ring is magic, it lets me fuck with time without being affected by the timestream.” Supposedly there are 12 universes, in which history unfolded differently. Only Trunk’s future makes 13…or 7.B? Wait, does that mean each universe has its own time stream that can diverge into alternate realities that still count as the same universe? Or do all 12 universe follow the same time stream, and there’s an alternate time stream with 12 other universes? Does the afterlife still have its own planets, or does each planet have its own afterlife? Ow, my brain! Fine, magic, time, whatever, sheessshhh. I’d would’ve preferred it if Black was just a clone created by the Super Dragon Balls. They were probably going for a complex and scientific origin, only apparently none of them understand that scientifically speaking, they’re all retarded.

Besides the convoluted origin story, episode 61 was actually awesome. There was a lot of fighting as Vegeta, Goku, and Trunks, all take on Black and Zamasu for the second time. The violence was brutal and sadistic, especially when Black stabs through Zamasu’s immortal body straight into Goku’s torso. Then he proceeds to taunt him with the story of how he killed Chichi and Goten. Black’s energy blade upgrades to falchion that throws spears! The villains’ combos are sick, especially when their energy attacks combine into one giant fireball. Once again our heroes are badly beaten but when the so-called Gods start condemning Trunks for the “sin” of time travel, the half-saiyan flips out. His eyes roll to the back of his head and he transforms from a super saiyan to a heavier, spikier, angrier form. This looks like a Super Super Saiyan from the Cell saga slimmed down by the new animators, so I don’t think it’s anything we haven’t seen before. Trunks was always able to use it, he just knew that it was slower, so he never did. Now he’s just too angry to care.

The preview for next week shows a bunch of side characters like Piccolo, Krillin, Chichi and Rochi in between the main fight. They better not take up too much screen time (though I’m sure they will). I want to see roid-rage Trunks kick some ass! Hopefully more violence is on its way next time on Dragonball Super!
